Horas de Luz

Juan José Garfía and Marimar met in 1991. He had been sentenced to more than a hundred years and she works as a nurse in the prison where Garfía is serving his sentence.

Together they embark on a love affair despite the objections of their mates on both sides of the bars. Thanks to Marimar, Garfía learns to ask for forgiveness. But the three murders he committed in 1987 are a burden on his life and relentlessly bring him up against society. Can a ray of light shine in total darkness?

Juntos inician una historia de amor, oponiéndose a sus compañeros a ambos lados de las rejas. Gracias a Marimar, Garfia aprende a pedir perdón. Pero los tres asesinatos que cometió en 1987 pesan sobre su vida y le enfrentan a la sociedad inexorablemente. ¿Puede nacer la luz en la oscuridad más absoluta?

El juego de la verdad

Alberto and Susana make the perfect couple. Attractive with good jobs and big plans for the future: a new house and a wedding in grand style.

 Alberto is sub-manager of an enormous supermarket and Susana is the sexiest newsreader on a television channel. Ernesto and Lea are their closest friends but they have no money, no future and certainly no plans.

He shouts out the offers in a supermarket over the loudspeaker instead of working on the radio and she has to pretend to be deaf and dumb to do the translations for deaf people on the news.

But everything changes when, through a medical error, Ernesto is diagnosed as having an incurable tumour and is given three months to live at the most. All their lives change drastically and all the lies and half-truths in which they live come to light.

Alberto y Susana son la pareja perfecta. Guapos, con una intensa vida social, buenos trabajos y grandes planes a la vista: una casa nueva y una boda por todo lo alto.

Ernesto y Lea son sus mejores amigos. Pero a ellos las cosas no les van tan bien. No tienen dinero, no tienen futuro, y desde luego no tienen planes.

Pero todo cambia un buen día, en el que los peores presagios de Ernesto (hipocondriaco incorregible) se hacen realidad: a causa de un error médico, le diagnostican un cáncer incurable, y le dan tres meses de vida como máximo.

Toda las vidas de ellos cambian de un modo muy drastico y todas las mentiras y medias verdades con las que conviven salen a la luz.

Salvador Allende

Salvador Allende gave his life to chile. Founder of the socialist party in chile, in 1970 he was voted president of the republic and dedicated himself to the socialist transformation of his country.

The documentary “Salvador Allende” follows the life of  the Chilean President from his childhood in Valparaiso until his death on 11 September 1973 after the military coup d’état, using documents from archives, photo albums and interviews.

Salvador Allende dio su vida por Chile, su país. Fundador del partido socialista de Chile, y diputado a los 28 años, este joven burgués ilustrado recorre el país de norte a sur para escuchar, discutir y convencer. En 1970 es elegido presidente de la república y se dedica por completo a la transformación socialista de su país, obsesionado por el respeto puntual de la democracia y sus instituciones.

Este documental sigue la vida del presidente chileno desde su infancia en Valparaiso hasta su muerte el 11 de septiembre de 1973, tras el golpe de estado militar, a través de documentos de archivos, álbumes de fotos y entrevistas.

Escuela de Seducción

Óscar García, a young shop assistant, is a huge success with the female customers. When he loses his job he decides to open a school to teach the art of seduction.

Sandra Vega, the director of a feminist radio programme challenges him to demonstrate “the little he knows about women”. Oscar is going to accept the challenge and show her what he is capable of on the air.

Oscar (Javier Veiga) es un joven y brillante vendedor en secciones femeninas de unos grandes almacenes. Todo marcha a las mil maravillas hasta que la empresa se declara en quiebra. El azar le demuestra que ese talento suyo de “conocimiento femenino” puede hacerle salir de esta situación.

Tras hablar con Freddy (David Bagés), un amigo suyo que tiene una sala alternativa, montará una escuela donde enseñará el arte de la seducción a ambos sexos. Sandra Vega (Victoria Abril), una psicóloga muy feminista que tiene un programa radiofónico de máxima audiencia, se convertirá en la víctima de Óscar y sus alumnos.

Non ti muovere = No te muevas = Don’t move

A day on the beach, a stop sign ignored, a 15-year-old girl who brakes, skids and falls from her motor scooter. A race by ambulance to the hospital, the very hospital where her father works.

While a colleague operates on his daughter, Timoteo waits. Faced with the terror of this extreme situation, he remembers… he lets his mask of firmness and cynicism, of perfect father and husband slip and reveals a strange, violent image of himself.

In the hopes of setting words against the silence of the coma and defeating death with life the leading character reveals a painful secret in an imaginary dialogue with his daughter: the story, which seems miserable, is of a powerful, visceral extramarital love affair.

That hot summer, so many years ago, a young, meek, needy woman with a suggestive name, Italy, appears in the wretched outskirts of a city.

Sergio Castellitto y Penelope Cruz protagonizan esta sensual historia de amor, en la que Timoteo (Sergio Castellitto) es un prestigioso médico que mantiene una relación fuera de su matrimonio con una joven prostituta, Italia (Penelope Cruz).

Completamente enamorado de su amante y a punto de dejarlo todo por ella, Timoteo debe volver a la realidad: tiene una esposa y una hija qeu dependen de él aunque en su cabeza siempre está presente esa mujer: Italia.

Tiovivo C.1950

There is no story line to this film. It is not so much an etching as a folder of those “while you wait” portraits painted by artists down on their luck (and low on talent in some cases) in the Madrid streets c.1950.

The “capital of the Empire” was then more then ever the breakwater of Spain. A grey breakwater with “the grey cops”, still with rationing, tender and cruel, poor even in its joy, convalescent (with a slight fever at dusk) but also picaresque, festive and surrealist. All in all a merry-go-round of survivors and we are their heirs whether we like it or not.

Esta película no tiene argumento. Apenas es un aguafuerte o, mejor, un carpetón de aquellos retratos al minuto que hacían los pintores sin suerte (y algunos hasta sin arte) en las calles de Madrid c.1950.

La “capital del Imperio” fue entonces más que nunca rompeolas de España. Un rompeolas gris y de “grises”, todavía racionado, tierno y cruel, pobre hasta en sus alegrías, convaleciente (siempre con décimas al atardecer), pero también pícaro, festivo y surrealista. Un tiovivo, en fin, de sobrevivientes de los que, nos guste o no, somos herederos.

Perseguidos

They are anonymous. Nobody knows them. Even in the small circle in which they move they have felt how some people who know them quickly turn away.

Their circle for conversation, discussion, of possible understanding is becoming more and more restricted. From first thing in the morning, when they walk through the streets on their way to work two bodyguards go with them.

When they finish work, they arrive at their front door and the last thing they do is to bid farewell to those who protect their lives until the next day. Five real actors, anonymous. Their lives, in some cases long, in others short. Their families, their memories, their hopes. Their terrible experiences of living pursued.

Son anónimos. Nadie les conoce. Incluso en el pequeño entorno en el que se mueven han sentido como algunas miradas de los que les conocen les evitan.

Su círculo de diálogo, de discusión, de posible comprensión es cada vez más reducido. Desde primera hora de la mañana, en cuanto pasan por la calle para ir a trabajar, dos escoltas les acompañan.

Cuando acaban su trabajo, llegan al portal de su casa y su último gesto es de despedida a los que protegen su vida hasta mañana. Cinco actores reales, anónimos. Su vida, larga en unos casos, corta en otros. Su familia, sus recuerdos, sus ilusiones. Su terrible experiencia de vivir perseguidos.

Mala uva

César is a widower who lives in the country with his youngest daughter Luz. He is a tough man but has a kind heart. Although he’s got two more daughters, both married and with children Luz is the apple of his eye.

He would do “absolutely anything” for her. César earns his living selling the wine he produces on his beautiful farm. It has taken him many years of dedication and sacrifice to build up his “little empire”. His vineyards and his family are his life, his pride and joy.

But César hides a terrible secret; his former, dangerous profession. A dark profession which unfortunately for him and for others he will have to take up once again to save what he loves the most.

César es un viudo que vive en el campo con su hija menor, Luz. Es un hombre duro, pero de buen corazón. A pesar de tener dos hijas más, todas casadas y con hijos, Luz es su ojito derecho.

Haría “cualquier cosa” por ella. César se gana la vida distribuyendo el vino que produce en su bellísima explotación. Le costó muchos años de dedicación y sacrificio levantar su “pequeño imperio”. Sus viñedos y su familia son su vida. Su orgullo. Pero César guarda un terrible secreto: su antigua y peligrosa profesión. Una oscura profesión que por desgracia, para él y para otros, tendrá que volver a desempeñar, para salvar lo que más quiere.

Mar adentro = The sea inside

Ramón has spent almost thirty years lying in bed cared for by his family. His only window on the world is that of his bedroom next to the sea on which he often travelled and where he suffered the accident which cut short his youth.

 The arrival of two women changes his life. Julia, a lawyer wants to support his fight and Rosa, a neighbour in the village tries to convince him that living is worthwhile. Ramón’s bright personality finally captivates both of them and will make them question, like never before, the principles which govern their lives. He knows that only the person who truly loves him will help him to make his last journey.

Ramón lleva treinta años postrado en una cama al cuidado de su familia. Su única ventana al mundo es la de su habitaicón, junto al mar por el que tanto viajó y donde sufrió el accidente qeu interrumpió su juventud.

Desde entonces, su único deseo es terminar con su vida dignamente. Pero su mundo se ve alterado por la llegada de dos mujeres: Julia, la abogada que quiere apoyar su lucha, y Rosa, una mujer del pueblo que intentará convencerle de que vivir merece la pena. La luminosa personalidad de Ramón termina por cautivar a ambas mujeres, que tendrán que cuestionar como nunca antes los principios con que rigen sus vidas.

Ramón sabe que sólo la persona que de verdad le ame será la que le ayude a realizar ese último viaje.
