La Pelota Vasca

Feature length documentary based on interviews with seventy people about the Basque conflict. The intention is to offer, with all its diversity, a portrait of the multiple aspects of an old problem, basically nationalist the most devastating consequence of this is ETA’s armed struggle.

 The documentary is made from the conviction that this tormented Basque tree is suffering from a disease, from its roots to its youngest twigs, which is predominately of a political nature. The attitude and final aim is to invite dialogue between the parties, a necessary political dialogue which is totally blocked at this time. It is a case of giving a chance, with respect, for everyone to exercise the right to express what they think and feel, with the sound idea that everyone holds at least the partial truth.

Largometraje documental basado en entrevistas a setenta personas sobre el conflicto vasco. La intención es la de ofrecer, desde su diversidad, un retrato de los múltiples aspectos de un viejo problema, de base nacionalista y cuya consecuencia más devastadora es la persistencia de la lucha armada de ETA.

El documental está hecho desde la convicción de que este atormentado árbol vasco padece una enfermedad, desde sus raíces hasta sus ramas más recientes, de carácter eminentemente político. La actitud y el objetivo final es invitar al diálogo entre las partes, un necesario diálogo político que en estos momentos está totalmente bloqueado. Se parte de la idea de que, posiblemente, nadie puede ser dueño de la verdad absoluta, sino que está, aparte de definirse sólo en términos relativos, se encuentra fraccionada y diversificada en cada uno de los entrevistados. Se trata de dar la oportunidad, desde el respeto, a que cada uno tenga derecho a exponer lo que piensa y siente, con la sana sospecha de que todos son dueños, por lo menos, de una verdad parcial.

Hotel Danubio

Hugo, an unsuccessful writer in Madrid in the fifties (he is always being told that his stories aren’t interesting because they lack credibility) is in a relationship with Ivón, a beautiful chorus girl from a Variety Theatre whose aim is to leave work, get married and live without financial worries.

 Hugo has a son, Carlos, who’s almost the same age as Ivón, and not only wants to get a sizable inheritance from his father but also makes the attractive chorus girl fall in love with him. However a mystery is hanging over HugoŽs young, rich, attractive son, a mystery which we will only find out about at the end, when Carlos forces his father to choose a tragic, desperate solution for which, paradoxically, he cannot be blamed.  

Hugo, un escritor fracasado en el Madrid de los 50 (le dicen, una y otra vez, que sus historias no interesan por falta de credibilidad), mantiene relaciones con Ivón, joven y bella chica de coro de una Compañía de Revistas, obsesionada con dejar de trabajar, casarse y vivir sin agobios económicos.

Hugo tiene un hijo, Carlos, casi de la edad de Ivón, quien, además de arrebatar a su padre una cuantiosa herencia, termina por enamorar a la hermosa vicetiple. Sin embargo, un misterio se cierne sobre el joven, rico y atractivo hijo de Hugo, misterio que únicamente conoceremos al final, cuando Carlos obligue a su padre a tomar una trágica y desesperada solución, de la que, paradójicamente, nadie podrá culparlo.

Mucha sangre

Two prisoners Choro and Cortaojos escape from the top security jail, Torre Bruno, with a sole aim: to collect payment of a millionaire debt from their former partner Vicuña.

 On the way to their friend Tiojuan’s scrap-yard they kidnap Iciar, a girl who seems quite naïve. There they arm themselves to the teeth while they plan how to doVicuña in. It’s his fault that Cortaojos ended up in prison while he kept all the loot. To everyone’s surprise the evil Vicuña has set up a kind of sect and is leading a terrifying alien invasion which is threatening the whole world, starting off with Spain and in particular Almería. After getting over masses of obstacles (including a crisis in the friendship) , our heroes face Vicuña and his “sect” in a titanic fight, side by side in a desperate effort to save humanity.

Choro y Cortaojos son dos presos que se escapan de la cárcel de altísima seguridad Torre Bruno, con una única intención: el cobro de una deuda millonaria con su antiguo socio Vicuña.

 Camino de la chatarrería de su amigo Tiojuan secuestran a Iciar, una chica aparentemente ingenua. Allí se arman hasta los dientes mientras planean cómo acabar con Vicuña, culpable de que Cortaojos acabara en prisión y de paso quedarse con todo el botín. Para sorpresa de todos, el malvado Vicuña ha formado una especie de secta y está al frente de una terrorífica invasión alienígena que amenaza a todo el mundo, empezando por España y más concretamente por Almería. Después de superar multitud de obstáculos (incluida una crisis de amistad), nuestros héroes se enfrentarán codo a codo en la lucha titánica contra Vicuña y su “secta”, en un intento desesperado de salvar a la humanidad.

Te doy mis ojos

Una noche de invierno, una mujer, Pilar, sale huyedo de su casa. Lleva consigo apenas cuatro cosas y a su hijo, Juan. Antonio no tarda en ir a buscarla. Pilar es su sol, dice, y además “le ha dado sus ojos”

…A lo largo de la película, los personajes irán reescribiendo ese libro de familia en el que está escrito quién es quién y qué se espera que haga pero en el que todos los conceptos están equivocados y donde dice hogar se lee infierno, donde dice amor hay dolor y quien promete protección produce terror.

One winter’s night, a woman, Pilar escapes from her house. With her, she takes just a few things, and her son, Juan. Antonio is soon on her trail. He says Pilar is his sunshine and what’s more, she “gave him” her eyes.

 Throughout the film, the characters struggle to rewrite a strict set of family norms decreeing who’s who and who does what. They’re based on all the wrong notions. Where it says “home”, read “hell”; where it says, “love”, there is pain; and where those norms promise protection, they really mean terror.

El misterio Galíndez

These are the scenes and the times spanned by “The Galíndez File”, a film which takes place somewhere between reality and fiction, based on the novel “Galindez” by Manuel Vázquez Montalbán. At the end of the eighties, Muriel Colber arrives in Spain to work on a doctoral thesis about Jesús de Galíndez, a Basque exiled in the United States after the Civil War, who was kidnapped and disappeared in strange circumstances in 1956 in New York. Her research soon leaves the academic field and goes deeper into the political and criminal sphere while those responsible for Jesús Galíndez’s death will do anything they possibly can to stop her discoveries coming to light.

Nueva York, República Dominicana, años cincuenta. Madrid, País Vasco y la República Dominicana otra vez, años ochenta.

Trileros

This is about two poor devils, fifty year olds, two born losers on the verge of desperation, the taxi driver Augusto and Julio, an old cinema specialist who often reminisces about the good old days.

 These two get into a lot of trouble when they are going after the big “job” which life has done them out of up to now and they accept the task of carrying out a secret operation in Perpignan in exchange for a million euros. On their travels they are accompanied by Augusto`s father-in-law Melquiades, who suffers from senile dementia in an entertaining way, and a prostitute, Lola who is later joined by Emma, just the kind of girl Julio is keen on. As they try to complete their task they come up against a group of traffickers from the mafia who are far from happy about Julio and Augusto achieving their objective.

Dos pobres diablos, cincuentones, dos perdedores natos al borde de la desesperación, el taxista Augusto y Julio, un antiguo especialista de cine que evoca a menudo aquellos maravillosos tiempos,

 se ven envueltos en un buen lío cuando, buscando dar el gran golpe que la vida les ha negado, aceptan el encargo de efectuar una operación clandestina en Perpignan a cambio de un millón de euros. En su peripecia, se verán acompañados por el suegro de Augusto, Melquiades –que sufre una divertida demencia senil- y una prostituta, Lola a la que más tarde se le une Emma, un tipo de mujeres al que Julio se muestra gran aficionado. Madronita Andreu was born in Barcelona at the end of the nineteenth century in a wealthy industrial family. From an early age she was fascinated by inventions and machines and that is how she became interested in photography and then the cinema which turned into her great passion.

 Throughout her life she filmed her family and their environment with great tenacity. She watched the world (her world) through the camera. “A Glimpse of other lives” presents a selection from more than 900 reels of material in 16mm filmed by Madronita Andreu. This is really an autobiography in images, perhaps the first in the history of film-making, which stretches from 1920 to the seventies.

Madronita Andreu nació en Barcelona a finales del siglo XIX, en una familia de industriales acomodados. Desde muy joven se sintió fascinada por los inventos y las máquinas y por eso se aficionó a la fotografía y luego al cine, que llegó a ser su gran pasión.

 Durante toda su vida se dedicó con tenacidad a filmar a su familia y a su entorno. Miraba el mundo (su mundo) a través de la cámara. Hasta ahí, el caso no pasa de ser una rareza, el capricho de una señora excéntrica y perseverante. Sin embargo, esta mujer, descendiente de pintores, tenía talento. Sabía componer, sabía encuadrar y, sobre todo, tenía una visión justa de dónde se hallaba el interés o la emoción de cada escena. “Un instante en la vida ajena” presenta una selección proveniente de las más de 900 bobinas de material en 16 mm. filmado por Madronita Andreu. En suma, se trata de una autobiografía en imágenes, quizá la primera en la historia del cine, que se extiende desde 1920 hasta la década de los setenta.

El Anzuelo

An entertaining comedy in which the daughter of a middle-class family marries a wealthy young man. In order to celebrate a “dream wedding” and “meet the circumstances” the bride’s parents spare no expense, and contract strong debts. The wedding party is a real success, until one of the characters discovers that the money set aside to pay the musicians has disappeared. The incident, which should not imply any consequences other than the financial implications, will give an unexpected twist to the destiny of all of the characters.

Entretenida comedia en la que una hija de familia de clase media se casa con un joven rico de clase alta. Para poder realizar un “matrimonio de ensueño” y estar “a la altura de las circunstancias” los padres de la novia echan la casa por la ventana endeudándose fuertemente. La fiesta de la boda es un verdadero éxito, hasta el momento en que uno de los personajes descubre que el dinero reservado para pagarle a los músicos ha desaparecido. El incidente, que no debía tener consecuencias más que de orden financiero, terminará por dar un vuelco al destino de todos los protagonistas.

Dos tipos duros

Paco is a hired thug who’s hit hard times, a guy with dandruff and debts. One of these debts is owed to Don Rodrigo, the Vito Corleone of the provincial city where they live, who’s so fed-up with waiting to be paid that he makes Paco teach the profession to his nephew Alex, an adolescent who looks like an idiot and has no idea about anything whatsoever.

One of Alex’s gaffes is to include Tatiana in the group. She’s a hostess in a bar and seems to be in need of help. So they’re all in on this and with Paco on the verge of doing himself in thinking about the gang he’s got, when luck seems to be coming their way; they have a job offer. This job involves kidnapping a sweet, harmless butcher, Aramís, and asking a juicy ransom for her which would allow Paco to pay off his debts and get rid of his new partners. Everything seems quite straightforward but with the right people even the simplest things can be a complete disaster.

Paco (Antonio Resines) es un matón a sueldo venido a menos, un tipo lleno de deudas. Una de ellas es con Don Rodrigo (Manuel Alexandre) el Vito Corleone de la ciudad de provincias donde viven, que le ofrece pagar sus deudas enseñando su profesión a su sobrino Alex (Jordi Vilches), un adolescente con aspecto de idiota que no parece tener el más mínimo talento.

 Por si fuera poco Alex incorpora al grupo  a Tatiana (Elena Anaya) una chica de alterne muy especial. Paco está desesperado con semejante compañía pero cuando parecía que nada podía ir peor, le ofrecen un interesante trabajo: Consiste en secuetrar a una dulce e inofensa carnicera, Aramís (Rosa María Sardá) y pedir un suculento rescate que permitirá a Paco pagar sus deudas y perder de vista a sus nuevos socios. Todo parece muy sencillo aunque, con la gente adecuada, es posible hacer que hasta la cosa más simple se convierta en un desastre.

Las manos vacías

Madam Catherine dies and Eric, a professional mechanic, buries her. The deceased’s savings end up in the trouser pocket of Axel, Eric’s nephew, and from there they go into the wash.

Sophie a ticket inspector on the railways; Gerard, a passenger, Yann, the bartender and the policeman Jean Claude are other characters in this story which has more than one point of view.

Madame Catherine fallece y Eric, de profesión mecánico, la entierra. Los ahorros de la fallecida van a parar a los pantalones de Axel, el sobrino de Eric, y de ahí a la lavadora.

 Sophie revisora de tren; Gerard, un pasajero; el tabernero Yann o el gendarme Jean-Claude son otros personajes de esta historia que admite más de un punto de vista.

Dama de noche

Bruno, a down and out writer, comes to the rescue of his former lover, Sofia, who is devastated in Veracruz, after the accidental death of hfer elderly boyfriend. Like the hero in one of his adventure novels, Bruno leaves Mexico City immediately to save Sofia. The story unravels as he proposes to get rid of the body, triggering increasingly outrtagous incidents… leading to a tragic end.

Bruno, autor de novelas de detectives, acude al rescate de su ex-novia Sofia, cuando ésta lo llama desde Veracruz, desecha por la muerte accidental de su amante. Como si fuera el héroe de una de sus novelas, Bruno sale de México inmediatamente para ayudar a Sofia y hace planes para deshacerse del cuerpo del amante. Una serie de sucesos imprevistos termina en tragedia.

El tránsfuga

Alberto is a deputy in a political party that, by a very small margin, i son the point of governing an Autonomous Community.

Removed from the in-fighting of his party, he is engaged with his two jobs as party treasurer and mentor of the youngest party members. He remains in love with his wife and loves his two daughters dearly.

His peaceful family life is crushed when his father-in-law, whose help economically allows them to live a well off live, is ruined. Alberto suddenly cannot face the debts. The president of a large Estate agency is aware of Alberto’s situation and tempts him to become a dishonest man.

Alberto es diputado de un partido político que, por muy poco margen, está a punto de gobernar una comunidad autonómica.

Alejado de las luchas internas de su partido sigue entregado a su tarea de tesorero y de mentor de los más jóvenes. Continua enamorado de su mujer y quiere con locura a sus dos hijas.

Su armonía familiar se trunca cuando su suegro, que gracias a su ayuda económica les permitía llevar un tren de vida superior a sus posibilidades se arruina. Alberto descubre de pronto que no puede hacer frente a las deudas.

El presidente de una gran inmobiliaria está al corriente de la situación de Alberto y le tienta para que deje de ser un hombre honesto.
