This story tells of a friendship between two men, of loneliness and the long convalescence from injuries caused by passion. It is also about the lack of communication in relationships and about communication, about films as a subject of conversation.

 It tells how monologues in front of a silent person can become an efficient form of dialogue and about silence as “body eloquence”, about films as the ideal vehicle in human relationships, about how films told in words hold up time and settle into the lives of those that tell them and those that listen.

Lisistrata

Athens 411 B.C. The men from Athens and Sparta are involved in an endless war. In order to put on end to this war the beautiful Lisistrata leads the women from both sides in an unprecedented uprising: a sex strike which has a great effect on the violent soldiers.

 Hepatitos, leader of the gay community, manages to convince the military commanders that the only way to satisfy the sexual needs of the army is to practice “Forced Homosexuality”. In spite of their initial reticence both the Athenians and Spartan soldiers comply with the order and even end up kissing and cuddling on the battlefield. But it is nothing more than a passing illusion. When the women find out that their husbands are enjoying sex with comrades and male friends, they put an end to the strike, go home and get things back to how they should be once and for all.

Atenas 411 a.c. Los hombres de Atenas y Esparta están inmersos en una guerra que parece no tener fin. Para acabar de una vez por todas con ella, la bella Lisístrata liderará a las mujeres de ambos bandos a una revuelta sin precedentes: una huelga de sexo con consecuencias durísimas para los violentos combatientes.

 Hepatitos, líder de la comunidad gay, conseguirá convencer a los estamentos militares de que la única forma de satisfacer las necesidades sexuales del ejército es con la práctica de la “Homosexualidad Forzosa”. A pesar de las reticencias iniciales, las órdenes serán acatadas por atenienses y espartanos, incluso, besuqueándose en el campo de batalla. Pero todo ha sido una ilusión pasajera. Cuando las mujeres descubran que sus maridos disfrutan de su sexualidad con compañeros y amigos, abandonarán la huelga para volver a casa y poner, definitivamente, las cosas en su sitio.

Twenty-year-old Miguel is staying at home by himself at his parents’ house to “be alone” with his girlfriend but his wonderful plan is upset when Alex, his irresponsible older brother, unexpectedly appears with the body of Canijo one of the right-hand men of a dangerous hit-man know as “The Cuban”.

Miguel agrees to hide the body for a few hours until his brother comes back to take it away. Miguel’s twentieth birthday ends up being one of the longest in his life because Alex does not come back at the planned time and the body has disappeared and what’s more everyone turns up at the house at the most inconvenient times.

Miguel es un veinteañero que se queda solo en casa de sus padres para “estar a solas” con su novia, y ve como su “maravilloso plan” se derrumba cuando aparece, inesperadamente, Alex, su irresponsable hermano mayor con el cadáver del Canijo, uno de los hombres de confianza de un peligroso matón conocido como “el Cubano”.

Miguel accede a esconder el cadáver durante unas horas, hasta que su hermano pueda regresar a llevárselo. El día del vigésimo cumpleaños de Miguel termina por convertirse en uno de los más largos de su vida, porque Alex no regresa a la hora convenida y el cadáver habrá desaparecido. Además todo el mundo se presentará en su casa en los momentos más inoportunos.

Jorge (Ricardo Darín), de 28 años, es una joven promesa de la literatura argentina, aunque en realidad vive de los cuentos románticos que escribe para una revista de actualidad.

Una noche conoce a Laura (Soledad Villamil), una soñadora camarera que sigue esperando el regreso de su novio, un artista que está montando una exposición en Uruguay y del que no tiene noticias desde hace meses.

Laura y Jorge se convierten en pareja, y ella, convencida de que Jorge posee un gran talento, se empeña en que escriba literatura “de verdad”. Pero la convivencia entre ellos se va deteriorando y su relación acaba en ruptura.

A lo largo de casi dos décadas, descubriremos las alegrias, las ilusiones, las desilusiones y la esperanza de estos dos personajes y su entorno, narrados con humor, emoción, grandes dosis de ironía y una pizca de sarcasmo.

One night he meets Laura (Soledad Villamil), a daydreaming waitress who is waiting for the return of her boyfriend, an artist who is mounting a exhibition in Uruguay, of which Laura has not heard from for months.  

Laura and Jorge become a couple, and she, convinced that Jorge possesses a great talent, insists that he writes “truthful” literature.  However their coexistence deteriorates and their relationship falls apart.

  After a lengthy almost two decades, we discover the happiness, the illusions, the disillusions and the hope of these two people and their environment, narrated with humour, emotion, a big dose or irony and a pinch of sarcasm.
